Summer Doldrums—July, 2000

by Eric Ecklund-Johnson

I always hate trying to come up with a prediction in the summer. I haven’t followed baseball all that closely since Hrbek and Puckett hung up their spikes, and real football is still months away (although that isn’t necessarily a bad thing when you live in the heart of Florida Gator territory). Since I haven’t kept up so well with the current sports, I’m going to go with the easy picks: Tiger Woods, Golfer of the Year; Mark McGwire, Homerun Champ; the Yankees, World Series Champs; the Houston Comets, WNBA Champs; and the U.S. Basketball team, Olympic Champions. I should at least beat Jimmy the Greek with these picks.
