Pietisten

The 2002 Waldenström Award

by Eric Ecklund-Johnson

Larry Johnson

—Penn State University—

Johnson rushed for over 2,000 yards this season, averaging over eight yards per rushing attempt which represents one of the all time great seasons for a college running back. Given the rarity of such numbers in major college football, it is surprising to all the Waldenström voters (i.e., the Sport Prophet) that Larry was not considered a clear favorite for the Heisman Trophy. Nonetheless, he is the runaway winner in the much more objective selection process for The Waldenström Award.*

*Pietisten gives The Waldenström Award to the outstanding college football player of the year as chosen by the Sport Prophet. The award is given in honor of the great P.P. Waldenström.
