Did You Miss Your Winter Issue of Pietisten?

You are not alone. You missed it because we missed it. As it turns out, 1994 was a three-issue year. This will not affect the number of issues you will receive under your current subscription because you have subscribed by number of issues (four or eight in most cases) rather than by year.

Pietisten has been in the midst of an adjustment. Adjustment has been required for two reasons: (1) the managing editor has a new job which does not allow him as much time to work on Pietisten and (2) readership, correspondence, and submissions of materials have grown considerably.

In order to continue to publish Pietisten, the loss of the managing editor’s extra time must be replaced by other resources, including more people, more efficient technology, and more financial support.

New office quarters have been established in the lower regions of 3232 47th Avenue South (no change of address and no rent), and new computer equipment has been acquired to increase efficiency and capacity. About $2,100 has been spent for a Macintosh Performa 6115CD computer. A used Mac Plus has been donated by a supporter and, when the Performa has been paid for and money is available for a reasonably priced hard drive, a contributing editor can be suitably equipped. With this new setup, we can distribute the workload in ways that were not possible before. We have contracted the services (part time) of Nels Elde, a senior at Carleton College, as Associate Editor. Nels, the author of “An Experience Down Under” in the last issue, is very competent in computer technology as well as being a person of letters.

Because we need an increase in income to accomplish what we have set out to do, we invite you to contribute to our capital needs. Contributions are tax deductible. Also, as your current subscription expires, you will receive a renewal notice that will offer several levels of support from which to choose. The basic Subscription Membership of $10 for four issues is still available and we are grateful to each of you who will continue to subscribe at that level.
